Thom Brouwer

My name is Thom (in full: Thomas) Brouwer, born (1988) and raised on the Zeeland coast, in Zoutelande to be specific. The dunes, the beach and the sea are anchored in me. The coast, with all its beautiful facets, is my favorite subject to capture. My development as a photographer started at a young age, I regularly walked through the dunes with my simple camera and through experimentation I learned to look at my surroundings. Photography slowly shifted into the background, until I traveled through Iceland with a borrowed SLR in 2016. The beauty of nature, and the art of portraying it in images, completely captured my attention. Since then, I have been at the beach more often than ever, once again inspired by the local environment, but also by other photographers, from local to international.

About my photography

In my photography I work from my feelings. I believe that photography starts with observation. All technical photo aspects are of course important, but they only come afterwards. I learn more every time I have my camera in my hand, photography is a profession par excellence in which you never finish developing. I am only satisfied when the image I create reflects the atmosphere or emotion of the moment. I started my own company because I notice that people appreciate this feeling. In an age where fantastic images can be haphazardly generated by AI, I cling to the moments that are authentic and tangible. The recognition in the form of my work on someone's wall, in someone's personal environment: I enjoy that immensely. It means that I have been able to convey the beauty of the environment or the moment and that this is cherished, which more than achieves my goal.
